JBL Authentics L16 Wireless Speaker System Test Bench

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the Authentics L16 Sound System (purple trace). The left channel was measured with grille at a distance of 1 meter.

The L16 Sound System’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures + 1.42 /– 2.69 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +1.97/–2.92 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3dB point is at 40 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 34 Hz.—Mark J. Peterson

Styling on this piece of kit is pretty sharp, but two enclosures would allow one to create a proper stereo image by moving the things several feet apart. I guess that those who know a stereo image are not the market for this product. That foam grille reminds me of 1970s speakers. I remember those little squares being squishy and springy and fun to push on, until a few years later when you push on them and they don't spring back, and then they crumble to dust. Let's hope materials science has progressed since then. (I do dig the brand. I have a new pair of JBL studio monitors I picked up for peanuts, and I love them to death.)

I got the Thodio iBox XC from my wife for my birthday last month, totally blown away by it, 200 watts, 51 hour battery (I am using it everywhere), HD Bluetooth, oh and did I mention it’s built out of 0.7” solid hard woods?!? Sony stuff is just plastic mass production, you can really hear that with the bass. Nothing beats solid wood.
