MUSIC REVIEW: Thom Yorke

The Eraser XL
Music •••• Sound ••••
Born mainly from his laptop and Radiohead's expansive loop library, Thom Yorke's solo bow is a minimalist marvel, a stripped-down descendant of the electronic Kid A. While the lyrics are typically meaty, the perpetually changing inflections of Yorke's warbling (and occasionally wordless) vocals are just as intriguing - witness the repetitive pleading on the title track, the haunting humming on "The Clock," and the moans and woos on "Analyse." Ever the serial sonic dismantler, Yorke erases any doubts about his ability to step out on his own. KO, computer!
