PSB’s Compact Alpha Series Speakers Gain Power

PSB is showing an active version of its compact, Top Pick-winning Alpha series speakers at CES. Slated to arrive sometime in the first half of 2020, the Alpha AM5 and AM3 powered bookshelf speakers will feature DSP control and EQ, along with aptX Bluetooth for streaming.

Both models feature a 0.75-inch dome tweeter paired with a polypropylene cone woofer (5.25-inch on the AM5, 4-inch on the smaller AM3) and will be available in walnut, black ash, and gloss white finishes. Each also offers RCA analog, optical digital, and USB inputs, along with a phono input to connect a turntable. A subwoofer output is provided.

Another feature of the powered Alpha’s onboard DSP is a quartet of listening modes to enhance spaciousness and enhance dialogue for movie watching. PSB hasn’t officially announced pricing, but a company rep said it should be in the $600 range for the AM5 and $400 range for the AM3.
