Denon AVR-S900W AV Receiver Test Bench
Audio
This graph shows the AVR-S900W’s left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads. Measurements for THD+Noise, crosstalk, signal-to-noise ratio, and analog/digital frequency response were all within expected performance parameters.
0.1% THD | 1.0% THD | |
2 Channels Continuously Driven, 8 Ohm Loads | 110.8 watts | 122.0 watts |
2 Channels Continuously Driven, 4 Ohm Loads | 147.7 watts | 177.9 watts |
5 Channels Continuously Driven, 8 Ohm Loads | 62.0 watts | 74.5 watts |
7 Channels Continuously Driven, 8 Ohm Loads | 57.6 watts | 66.2 watts |
Video
The Denon passed all of our standard video tests. We were also able to check its 4K upconversion into a 4K set, and in more limited tests there it performed well. One oddity: into the Sony XBR-55X900B Ultra HD set, with the Denon’s Resolution control set to Auto (which with most upconversion devices checks their output resolution against the maximum that set can accept and outputs out the latter) it would not output higher than 1080p. When the Resolution was set to 4K, however, the Denon did upconvert the source to 4K (3840 x 2160).—TJN
