Ultra-Big-Screen Movie Magic Comes Home with IMAX Private Theatre

If you’ve got some extra dough laying around, IMAX just announced the IMAX Private Theatre.

Calling it “the world’s most immersive cinema experience,” the company says it has taken the best of its commercial theater experience and customized it to create a state-of-the-art home cinema experience. The design concept originated from the company’s state-of-the-art screening room in Santa Monica, Calif.

System highlights include:

  • IMAX 4K 3D dual-projection technology
  • A proprietary image enhancer to maximize image quality, regardless of the content source
  • A laser-aligned 7.1-channel surround sound system
  • Advanced sound calibration technology that collects data from individual channels for daily tuning
  • A patented theater design that “enables movie-goers to become part of the story”
  • A wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen
  • Integrated theater controls on a touch-screen interface
  • The ability to enjoy your favorite movies, television programming, sports, music and gaming in IMAX
  • A numbered commemorative plaque that brands each home system as an original
  • Fully integrated, round-the-clock maintenance and support

The price? Well, if you have to ask… Okay, okay: Base price is $2 million, which includes design and support. No doubt, Hollywood directors are already jockeying for position. Who will be first? Steven?

I am pleased to see Imax enter this market. It will establish finally (apart from our company Leader Cinema) a totally professional approach in establishing high performance home theater. www.leadercinema.com has over 20 years of studio related expertise in this area. We have successfully depolyed and designed over 50 facilities which include studio class screening rooms in residences for professionals and users who do not wish to visit any public cinema. Contrary to public expectations, all public cinemas are not at the leading edge of the state-of-the-art. This level of sophistication is to be found within the walls of the movie studios, where the technical budgets for sound and picture including the acoustical treatment runs 5 to 10 times that of a typical cinema for public exhibition.

As Imax has entered this market, it will raise the bar in the technical sophistication necessary to truly achieve the state of the art expected by movie stars and movie moguls and others in their private theaters.

Leader D Cinema Systems, Inc is operated by EMMY Award winner Michael Leader. The company is based in Vancouver Canada, with offices and technical engineering located in Beverly Hills and Glendale California. We provide turnkey Leader Hollywood Format (tm) LHF(TM) Certified systems to a global market. Leader provides DCP/DCI Compliant digital cinema systems where the owner has access to "day/date" Hollywood content for a fee. DCP is the hard drive package (physical delivery via FedEX) which contains the
movie content. DCP is not HD video, as DCP operates at levels far over and above HD video.
