Soundcast to Add Play-Fi & Touch Control to New Outdoor Speakers

Soundcast, the San Diego-based company specializing in wireless outdoor speakers, has announced a couple new features its latest VGX Series models: a capacitive touch interface in two models and DTS Play-Fi support in another.

Hailed as the first outdoor speaker to support the DTS Play-Fi platform, the new flagship VG10 ($700) features a 15-hour battery life and thanks to Play-Fi is compatible with more than 30 other wireless speakers.

The new VG3 and VG5 models — $300 and $500, respectively — are said to be the first outdoor with a capacitive touch interface and a “fuel-gauge” LED array for power, battery level, and volume. The VG3 has two 1.5-inch full-range drivers and a down-firing woofer, while the VG5 adds a weather-resistant exterior and larger 3-inch drivers that complement a down-firing 5-inch woofer.

The company also announced the VGtx long-range transmitter ($100), which is said to extend the speaker’s range to more than 160 feet. The device attaches to the speaker’s 3.5mm aux input.

The new models are slated to ship next spring but are expected to be available for preorder before then on the Soundcast website and Amazon. For more information, visit gosoundcast.com.
