Sony Announces Pricing for New 4K HDR HDTVs

Sony today announced pricing for the X900F and X850F series of high dynamic range (HDR)-enabled 4K Ultra HDTVs it previewed at CES 2018 in January.

Pricing for the X900F series is as follows:
• 55-inch XBR-55X900F, $1,500
• 65-inch XBR-65X900F, $2,300
• 75-inch XBR-75X900Fm $4,000

The X900F models, which will support Dolby Vision via a firmware update to be released later this year, feature Sony’s new X1 Extreme 4K HDR processor, which draws on three proprietary technologies to improve picture quality, regardless of the source material, according to Sony. “Object-based HDR remaster” adjusts contrast in real-time, while Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR uses 14-bit signal processing to smooth out gradations by breaking up solid bands of color and “dual database processing” compares images against a reference database to reduce noise and enhance picture clarity.

Pricing for the X850F series is as follows:
• 65-inch XBR-65X850F, $2,000
• 75-inch XBR-75X850F, $3,300

The X850F models features Sony’s X1 4K HDR processor, “object-based HDR remaster” technology, and, 4K HDR Super Bit Mapping.

Sony's customer service is very poor and their offices for this function are in Boca Raton Florida.. Florida protects Sony from consumer lawsuits that's why they moved from Culver City California..

The TCL 6 Series will outperform these Sony's for 1/3 the price.. Ha ha..

$4000 for the 75" X900F Sony set is pretty good, comparable to the $3500 Vizio P75-E1.
But I'm waiting for that much talked about Hisense H10E 75" 4K UHD with full array local dimming featuring 1056 LEDs, which is rumored to list at $5000. If that set has a decent picture, it could be a real game changer. All I've seen are videos of the set taken at the last CES, but even under all that overhead lighting, the blacks looked incredible and the colors popped like crazy. I'd love to see that in a home theater room after being adjusted for home use. But we'll see. I'm sure the staff at S & V will be dying to get their hands on one when it's released this spring.

In case anyone's intrested, the 85-inch XBR-85X900F is listed as $6,999.99 at https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/xbr-x900f-series?showModelP...

A bit much for me unfortunately, but the 75-inch may find a home in my system.

After some bad experiences with a Sony AVR and BluRay player about 15 years ago, I just dont trust their quality control. And like the post above states, their customer support is terrible and manuals worse.
