Sim2's Dual Mode DLP Projector

Digital Light Processing is one of the hottest buzzwords in home theater. Sim2 Seleco USA, Inc., has incorporated the Texas Instruments technology into a sleek attractive projector claimed to be optimized for both high-definition and legacy video displays.

Based around TI's 480P DLP process, the HT200DM is the latest in Seleco's Grand Cinema Home Theater projector line, and the first one to use "Dual Mode" optimization. In widescreen 16:9 format, the projector offers a resolution of 848 x 480 pixels. When used with legacy video sources, the 4:3 image will have a resolution of 800 x 600. The technique insures excellent picture quality regardless of the source, according to Seleco USA v.p. Dan Drook.

The HT200DM's image quality has also been improved through the use of a six-segment color wheel with larger red segments for accurate colorimetry. The HT 200DM "is the only dual mode projector on the market," Drook says. Carrying a suggested retail price of $9995, the HT200DM made its official debut at the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
