Plus Corp.'s New DLP Projectors

Last year, Plus Corporation of America rocked the home theater world with the introduction of the Plus "Piano" HE-3100, a compact DLP video projector with great specifications. Home Theater's Mike Wood gave the little projector two thumbs up, saying all the right compromises were made to get it to market at a ground-breaking price of $3000 retail.

In January, the company merged with Lightware and changed its name to Plus Vision Corporation of America. In mid-February, the company announced a trio of new DLP projectors at three different price points. The brightest, and most expensive of the bunch is the $5,995 U2-1150, capable of light output of 1500 lumens. At $4,995, the U2-X1130 puts out 1300 lumens, as does the $2,895 U2-813. All three projectors are based on Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing technology and come equipped with "full multimedia capabilities," according to a recent announcement. All weigh less than 5.6 pounds.

The U2 series projectors feature manual focus, manual zoom and digital keystone correction for easy setup. When used for presentations, a "DigitalZoom" feature allows the enlargement of tiny details on screen. All three projectors are compatible with all common video standards and can connect to virtually any video source, including PCs, DVDs, and digital camcorders.

Plus Vision will continue its efforts to increase the performance of their products without increasing their weight, company officials declared. "Moving forward, Plus Vision will continue to advance projection miniaturization, but in order to meet the needs of our new expanded customer base, we will also direct efforts at increasing brightness across all our product lines," said v.p. of sales and marketing S. Mark Hand. Plus Vision also offers with six different projectors weighing less than three pounds, and two ultra-portable projectors weighing less than two pounds each.
