LG Announces Pricing for 2018 4K OLED and LCD TVs

LG today announced pricing and availability for the 2018 TV lineup of 4K OLED and 4K LCD TVs it previewed at CES 2018 in January.

The company is launching AI-enabled OLED models in screen sizes ranging from 55 to 77 inches (diagonal), including the 65- and 77-inch W8 Series Picture-on-Wall models, 55- and 65-inch E8 Series Picture-on-Glass models, and five Cinema Screen models. LG will also roll out seven new AI-enabled Super UHD TVs in screen sizes ranging from 49 to 75 inches.

The new models — the first of which launch next week — are based on LG’s webOS smart platform and feature the brand’s AI (Artificial Intelligence) ThinQ technology and Alpha 9 (premium OLED models) and Alpha 7 (Super UHD models) processors. LG’s Super UHD LCD models also incorporate Nano Cell technology for “expanded color gamut and natural, rich colors from any angle” and SK9000 and SK9500 series models have a full-array backlight with local dimming.

All models have Dolby Atmos audio processing on board and support all of the major HDR formats: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and Advanced HDR by Technicolor.

ThinQ technology uses natural language processing (NLP) for voice-activated control and connectivity with other devices — including lighting and appliances — and is said to enhance and expand voice control with hundreds of preprogrammed LG commands.

LG’s Alpha 9 processor is said to improve color and sharpness in addition to reducing noise and rendering smoother more realistic looking gradations. The processor uses advanced color mapping and has an OLED frame-rate capability of up to 120 frames per second.
