B&W Debuts “Most Ambitious” Headphone Yet

Bowers & Wilkins yesterday unveiled its “best sounding and most luxurious headphone to date.”

Conceived to celebrate B&W’s 50th anniversary, the P9 Signature ($900) was engineered by the same team responsible for updating the iconic 800 D3 speaker.

B&W sought to produce a more spacious and natural listening experience by angling the P9’s proprietary 1.6-inch piston drivers. Designers have also decoupled the headband from each ear cup to prevent vibration from distorting the sound without compromising comfort.

Topnotch materials were used to craft the P9 are custom, including Italian Saffiano leather with its distinctive cross-hatch finish and (foldable) aluminum arms that support the ear cups. Even the carrying case is made of soft, suede-like Alcantara.

Apart from comfort, memory foam used in the ear pads conforms to the shape of the user’s head over time and helps isolate noise, according to B&W.

P9 Signature has a detachable cable and comes with selection of cables suitable for use at home and on the go. B&W said a Lightning cable for iOS devices is under development and will be available free of charge in 2017 to owners who register the headphone.
