Samsung Updates The Frame Lifestyle TV

Samsung has announced the newest iteration of The Frame lifestyle TV it unveiled last year.

Described as “the most beautiful TV you’ve never seen,” the high-style 4K display morphs into wall art when it’s not in use.

The 2018 version of the TV features an improved Art Mode, an expanded selection of artwork that can be displayed onscreen when the TV is off, a more streamlined look, and enhanced picture quality.

The 4K TV, which is described as similar to Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV line, now supports HDR10+ high dynamic range (HDR) processing and offers new smart TV capabilities that make it easier to set up the TV and access content. The TV also uses Samsung’s proprietary Smart Hub menu and Universal Guide for navigating across streaming services, consoles, and live TV and curating shows based on viewer tastes.

An improved user interface is said to make it easier to browse art based on the color scheme of the room or a particular medium, such as drawings or photography, and compile a personalized collection of art that the TV shuffles through, Samsung said.

More than 800 pieces of art spanning classical, contemporary, urban, and abstract are now available at the Samsung Art Store, which owners of The Frame can subscribe to for $4.99/month. The store is said to house a diverse library of artwork from some of the most prominent museums, galleries, and artists around the world, including more than 30 iconic photos from the archives of The New York Times.

“We designed The Frame for consumers who love the function of a big, beautiful 4K UHD TV but struggle to design their room around an empty black screen when the TV is turned off,” said Dave Das, Samsung’s senior vice president of consumer electronics. “You can travel the world and still be hard-pressed to discover all of the art that is now available on The Frame. It gives consumers the freedom to design the room of their dreams, and the flexibility to change that design whenever they like.”

If you happen to be in New York City, The Frame 2018 is on display this week at Samsung 837 in the heart of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The address is 837 Washington Street, New York NY 10014.

I need a 32" version of this. Hey, S&V, can someone ask them when a smaller size will be available?

Love the idea and the aesthetic, but how does being left on 24/7 as static art affect the TV & Screen life. Not to mention the set's power consumption?

"Art Mode" on the Frame uses a motion sensor to switch the screen off when no one's in the room. It's probably not the same as its true standby mode, which uses .5 watt, but it should be a lot less than the roughly 48 watts used in Art Mode.
