In October Panasonic will begin selling the first Ultra HD TV based on HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2a specifications. Part of the Smart Viera line, the 65-inch TC-L65WT600 is THX-certified and accepts 4K 60p video signals.

The set, which will sell for $6,000, uses 2,400 Back Light Scanning (BLS) technology with local dimming, which is said to improve sharpness and black levels, and has a 4K H.264 (MPEG4) decoder for playing 4K video files from the Internet, USB drive, or SD card and a 4K Swipe & Share feature for wirelessly sending photos from a smartphone or tablet to the TV at up to 4K resolution.

Other highlights include 4K Intelligent Frame Creation for smooth panning of up to 120 frames per second, a 4K Fine Remaster Engine that upscales standard- and high-definition content to 4K resolution, and an ISFccc Calibration Mode. The set is compatible with CalMAN calibration software and provides Smart Calibration, which enables the viewer to set detailed correction curves for gamma, white point, and color saturation via an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet.

Smart TV features include built-in Wi-Fi, an HTML5 Web browser that supports 4K resolution, DLNA streaming, and Panasonic’s My Home Screen feature, which enables family members to set up personalized home screens and provides direct access to content from YouTube and other providers.

Voice control is supported via the WT600’s touchpad remote or a smartphone/tablet with Panasonic’s TV Remote 2 App. The TV also has a built-in camera that automatically pops up from the top of the screen when a Skype video call is made.
