Yamaha Aventage RX-A1000 A/V Receiver Video Test Bench

Video Test Bench

The Digital results shown were taken from an HDMI digital input to an HDMI digital output. The Analog results were made from an analog component input to an HDMI digital output (cross-conversion).

The Yamaha will upconvert 480i or 480p (either component in or HDMI in) to a maximum of 1080p with HDMI, or 1080i with component. But it cannot upconvert 720p or 1080i HDMI in to 1080p HDMI out. Nor will it cross-convert a 720p or 1080i component in to a 1080p HDMI out, thus the NA ratings in the chart.

In the Analog results (component 1080i in to HDMI 1080i out), the AVR failed the (horizontal) resolution tests. It also failed Analog video clipping—that is, it would not go above white or below black. We don’t recommend such cross-conversion for premium sources. Cross-conversion has produced mediocre test results in most of the A/V receivers we’ve tested and is useful mainly as a convenience feature.—TJN
