Xantech Amps: Multi-zone Solution

Many home theater fans have multiple systems---a serious home theater, perhaps a dedicated music room, and often, a multi-zone audio system that provides background music throughout the house.

Xantech Corporation, best known among custom installers for its versatile IR (infrared remote) technology and in-wall controls, has introduced a series of amplifiers purpose-built for multi-zone applications. Designed around the proven concept of the PA1235 twelve-channel amplifier, the new products take whole-house systems to a new level, according to Larry Schatz, Xantech's Director of National Sales. "Since no two jobs are ever the same, we are now introducing three additional amplifiers in the same family for added flexibility," Schatz explained.

The new additions to the Xantech line include the PA1235X (12-channel) and PA635X (6-channel) power amplifiers, each capable of 35 watts per channel, with low-impedance driving capability. "These two products have the same great sound, power and reliability as the very popular PA1235," said Schatz. DC controlled, and with selectable inputs, both are engineered for systems using a multi-zone pre-amp that do not require having IR controls in the amplifier. They are rack-mountable, with front-panel LED indicators, and auto-protection circuitry to shut them down in case of mishaps. Both are available in 240VAC/50Hz versions.

Xantech has also introduced a six-channel amp with built-in IR capability, the PA635. "Engineered for systems that do not require the sophistication of multi-zone distribution, this amplifier offers features found on no other multi-channel amplifier including on-board IR control of volume, balance, mute and pre-set audio levels," reads a Xantech press release. "Our goal is to provide Xantech distributors, dealer/installers and end-users with the right products to meet their needs on a continuing basis," Schatz stated.
