Spotify Eying Hardware Launch?

Recent job postings by Spotify suggest that the company might be looking to make a move into the hardware space.

The music streaming powerhouse is seeking to fill open positions in its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, according to recent job listings brought to light by MusicAlly. It’s unclear as to what type of product(s) the company is considering, though some have speculated it could be a wearable device for streaming music.

Or maybe they’ll throw their hat in the smart speaker ring. Why not, everyone else is jumping into that space...

Either one would make sense, given Spotify’s compatibility (through its Spotify Connect program) with more than 300 products across 80 brands, among them Amazon, Apple, Google and just about every major audio brand you can think of.

In a post seeking a project manager, hardware production and engineering, the company wrote: “You will manage the overall hardware project execution and work with suppliers to deliver the optimal Spotify experience to millions of users. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.”

Under the heading “what you’ll do” in a post for operations manager-hardware product, Spotify listed “define and drive the hardware operations process within Spotify” as one of the responsibilities.
