Sony Wins Top Honors at 2025 Value Electronics TV Shootout

In a closely watched annual tradition for video enthusiasts, retailers, and manufacturers alike, the 2025 Value Electronics TV Shootout concluded Saturday with Sony’s 65-inch Bravia 8 II OLED (model K65XR80M2) claiming the title of “King of TV.”

Held at Value Electronics’ Scarsdale, New York showroom, the long-running evaluation event brought together four flagship OLED TVs—LG G5, Panasonic Z95B, Samsung S95F, and Sony XR80M2—and subjected them to a rigorous series of tests. Two Sony BVM-HX3110 professional mastering monitors served as reference displays for accurate visual comparison.

Now in its 21st year, the TV Shootout evaluates both Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) performance across several picture quality attributes, including color accuracy, contrast, and motion handling. All TVs were professionally calibrated to level the playing field. The judging panel included video professionals and imaging scientists.

SDR Evaluation: Sony’s XR80M2 OLED emerged as the top performer in the SDR round, securing the highest scores in two of the four attributes and finishing with the best overall average. Samsung’s S95F followed closely in second, with Panasonic’s Z95B and LG’s G5 rounding out the rankings.

HDR Evaluation: The HDR segment was hotly contested. Panasonic’s Z95B took first place in overall average, narrowly edging out Samsung’s S95F by just 0.01 points. Both displays won two of the four HDR categories. Sony finished third, while LG came in fourth.

Final Standings

Factoring in overall averages from both SDR and HDR segments, Sony’s Bravia 8 II earned the crown based on its decisive SDR win and consistent performance across the board. Samsung’s S95F placed second, followed by Panasonic’s Z95B in third.
