Sony Announces Updates for Current Projectors

Sony yesterday announced new firmware updates for five current projectors. The updates add an HDR Contrast function, automatic selection of BT2020 color space, among other things.

The projector models receiving a firmware update are: VPL-HW65ES, VPL-HW45ES, VPL-VW5000ES, VPL-VW665ES, and VPL-VW365ES.

• Adds support for the Sony unified control protocol (common protocol / ADCP); the Remote Start function is no longer available as part of Network Management (VPL-HW65ES)

VPL-VW5000ES – Updates system software to Version 4.301 and improves HDR-related functionality and other things…
• Adds the HDR Contrast function to the Picture Menu (when viewing HDR content) to allow adjustment of the average screen brightness
• Adds automatic selection of BT2020 color space when receiving such content
• Adds an HDR indicator in the Information Menu when HDR content is being received
• Adds Lens Center Return function
• Improves overall picture quality
• Adds minor bug fixes

VPL-VW665ES/VW365ES – Updates system software to Version 2.301 and…
• Adds the HDR Contrast function to the Picture Menu (when viewing HDR content) to allow adjustment of the average screen brightness
• Adds automatic selection of BT2020 color space when receiving such content
• Adds an HDR indicator in the Information Menu when HDR content is being received
