Sonos Trueplay Speaker Tuning Now Available

Sonos has announced that its Trueplay speaker tuning software is now available via a free update.

Trueplay technology is designed to improve the sound of compatible Sonos speakers regardless of where they are placed in a room. Using the Sonos app, the microphone on an iPhone or iPad, and test tones emitted by the speaker, the system analyzes room acoustics—how sound reflects off walls, furnishings, glass, and other surfaces—and calibrates the speaker so it sounds as natural sounding as possible. Sonos says the entire process takes a minute or less.

See Darryl Wilkinson’s recent story for a more detailed explanation of the Trueplay tuning routine and his impressions of the technology, including the results of a demonstration where a speaker was placed inside a cabinet.

Trueplay is compatible with both the original and new Sonos PLAY:5 as well as all PLAY:1 and PLAY:3 smart speakers and iOS devices. Sonos said Trueplay capability will be added to more models over time.
