Sharp’s New 70” 8K Monitor Aimed at Business

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who missed the news that Sharp introduced an 8K LCD monitor here in the states last month.

The reason you didn’t hear about it is because the 70-inch 8M-B70AU display was announced by Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America, the division of Sharp Electronics Corp. specializing in professional and commercial displays “engineered for business applications” — ranging from broadcast TV and sporting venues to surveillance, video post-production, medical training, museums, galleries, and graphic arts.

For hefty price of $17,895, the set delivers 7,680 x 4,320 resolution (33 million pixels) and 8K upscaling in addition to supporting 10-bit color depth and high-dynamic range (HDR) with a rated peak brightness of 1,000 nits.

“While users who stand close to a Full HD monitor can distinguish individual pixels, the pixels on an 8K Ultra HD screen are not visible to the naked eye,” SIICA said in the press release announcing the 8M-B70AU. “It allows users to enlarge images of fine art, artifacts, or architectural structures, providing a close-up look at the intricate techniques used by its creators. Viewers are able to see details that would normally be invisible.”

Meanwhile, Sharp Corp. of Japan recently announced plans to ship three 8K LCD TVs under the Aquos banner on November 17 in advance of 4K/8K satellite broadcasting, which is slated to begin in Japan on December 1. With 60-, 70-, and 80-inch screens, the dollar-equivalent pricing for the TVs will be around $6,700, $8,900, and $17,800.

By comparison, the 85-inch Q900 8K QLED TV Samsung is slated to launch on Sunday (October 28) will list for $15,000.

The 85" 8K Samsung is 5 inches bigger than the 80" 8K Sharp TV But Cost only $15,000 compares to Sharp $17,800. That is like $2,800 cheaper and if both are the same size of 80", the Samsung might be even cheaper, as much as another $1,000 to $2,000 cheaper.

Don't forget the Samsung peak brightness is 4,000 nits compare to Sharp 1,000 nits. That is 4 times brighter and awesome for HDR. So Samsung does seems like a better deal in term of specs. maybe sharp 8k tv might have better color and black level or something and is aim at professional use like business and commercial use, that is why its more expensive...
