Satellite HD and 3D Channels Grow

Want more high-def choices on satellite? Both of the major satellite TV providers are adding HD channels, and DirecTV's 3D roster is now up to four channels.

The biggest HD expansion is coming from DirecTV, which is adding 30 new channels for a total of 160. DirecTV covers 92 percent of U.S. households in 138 markets. Look for 3D channels to launch in June including the Panasonic-powered N3D, ESPN 3D, a cinema channel, and an on-demand channel.

Meanwhile, the Dish Network is using different counting methodology to claim 200 HD channels, though that includes 72 pay-per-view slots that show one movie at a time.
