Samsung Adds CBS News to TV Plus Service

Samsung today announced the addition of CBS News (CBSN) to its free, ad-supported video service, Samsung TV Plus.

The 24/7 streaming news service CBSN joins more than 70 channels on Samsung TV Plus, which is pre-installed on internet-enabled Samsung smart TVs built between 2016 and 2019.

TV Plus is tailored to the growing number of “cord cutters” who are stepping away from traditional cable packages and millennials who have never subscribed to cable.

The service provide free, instant access to channels spanning news, sports, kids, lifestyle, and gaming. Channels include ET Live, Cheddar, WeatherNation, fubo Sports Network, Outside TV+, Moonbug, Tastemade, QVC, PeopleTV, This Old House, FailArmy, The Pet Collective, IGN, and more.

“As viewership trends continue to shift, we feel it is important to offer consumers a live and linear TV experience that is completely free and directly integrated into our Samsung smart TV platform,” said Salek Brodsky, Samsung’s vice president of strategic partnerships and business development.

More than a third (34%) of U.S. households will not have a traditional cable subscription by the end of 2019, according to a recent study from Convergence Research Group.
