Samson Introduces $120 Desktop Speaker System

Samson, the Hicksville, NY-based audio company best known for its professional studio monitors and Hartke-brand bass amplifiers, recently expanded its line of MediaOne studio monitors with an affordable set of compact powered speakers designed for desktop applications.

The MediaOne M50 powered monitor ($120/pair) teams a 5.25-inch polypropylene woofer with a 0.75-inch silk-dome tweeter in a ported wood enclosure finished in black vinyl. The system is powered by a 2 x 40-watt amplifier housed in one of the speakers and rated to play down to 50 Hz (–3 dB).

A custom waveguide is designed to deliver “smooth highs with a wide sound stage.” The speaker housing the amplifier has a minijack headphone input and volume control on its front panel plus RCA stereo inputs, a minijack input and output, and bass boost switch on its rear panel.

The speakers are said to bring “big, balanced sound” to the desktop whether you’re listening to music, watching videos, or producing podcasts.
