PSB Expands Alpha Series with New Affordable Subs

Canadian speaker specialist PSB Speakers has announced that it is adding two subwoofers to its popular Alpha Series of speakers in October.

Described as equally well suited for music or movies, the Alpha S8 ($449) and Alpha S10 ($549) are DSP-controlled powered subs that team an 8- or 10-inch long-throw woofer with an amplifier rated to deliver 150 watts of continuous power (210 watts peak) in a compact, bass-reflex enclosure with a rear port. The drivers are made of polypropylene and have rubber surrounds.

Both subwoofers were designed by PSB founder and chief engineer Paul Barton and, like all PSB speakers, voiced at Canada’s famous National Research Council. Each is equipped with a volume control, phase switch, adjustable 50-150-Hz crossover, gold-plated line-level input jacks, and an AutoOn/Standby switch. A USB power jack is provided for use with an optional wireless transmitter.

Supplied accessories include rubber bumpers and spikes for use on carpeted or hardwood floors. Black woodgrain finish is standard.
