Philips Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Due Out in June
The BDP7501, which will join the recently introduced Samsung UBD-K8500 player, will be offered in two versions—one with a brushed aluminum chassis and one with a piano-black finish (BDP7301)—each priced at $400.
Features include support for high dynamic range (HDR10), HEVC and VP9 decoders for streaming Netflix and YouTube 4K content, 4K upscaling for non-4K discs, 3D playback, built-in Wi-Fi, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround decoding, HDMI 2.0a and 1.4a outputs and a discrete HDMI audio output for connecting to legacy receivers with HDMI connections that can’t pass HDCP 2.2-protected content.
"This is a significant step in the transition from HD to 4KUltra HD, and one that we believe will quicken consumers' adoption of 4K, especially as they see what the combination of 4K, HDR, and Ultra HD Blu-ray's wide color gamut can achieve," said Karl Bearnarth, executive vice president at P&F USA.
The player will be available through a number of retailers, including Best Buy and Amazon.
