Philips Announces Low-Priced Roku HDTVs

P&F USA, the exclusive licensee for Philips televisions and video products in North America, has announced a new series of budget 1080p TVs built around Roku’s OS 8 operating system, which features an upgraded electronic program guide.

The Roku TV 4000 series comprises three models: the 40-inch 40PFL4662/F7, available now at Sam’s Club for $349; the 43-inch 43PFL4662/F7 ($379, no release date yet), and 50-inch 50PFL4662/F7, due out in January for $429.

All models feature the Roku home screen, which provides access to more than 500,000 movies and TV shows across 5,000 streaming channels, and a new SmartGuide that shows cable and over-the-air (OTA) broadcast channels received via antenna alongside streaming channels to make it easier for viewers to find what they want to watch. The guide provides program information for local broadcast channels seven days back and 14 days into the future and includes Roku’s More Ways to Watch feature that indicates whether a movie or show is also available on-demand from streaming services and if more episodes of a show are available to stream.

Other OS 8 features include Roku’s TV Everywhere single sign-on to eliminate the need to log into channels multiple times and the Roku mobile app, which features voice search and Private Listening for streaming entertainment and broadcast TV channels.

TV features include Philips’ 120 Perfect Motion Rate processing, said to reduce motion artifacts and ensure clear images during fast action scenes, and a built-in 16-watt surround-sound system.

The Roku TV 4000 series by Philips with its extensive streaming options and SmartGuide brings a lot to the table at competitive prices. The inclusion of Rokus TV Everywhere and the Philips 16 watt surround sound system make it a well rounded package.
