Panasonic Introduces Ultra-Bright Desktop TV

This November, Panasonic will begin delivering a new generation of widescreen LCD television sets with astounding brightness, clarity, and contrast.

One certain to interest travelers and others with a need for "desktop theater" is the TC-11LV1, a full-featured, super bright, 16:9 widescreen LCD television with a built-in DVD player. Boasting a contrast ratio of 500:1, the TC-11LV1 is claimed to achieve amazing image quality on its 11"-diagonal screen.

The TC-11LV1 includes a cleverly built-in, progressive scan DVD player and two built-in speakers. A Dolby Digital surround sound decoder is included should you wish to hook the unit up to a suitable audio system. The screen's 16:9 aspect ratio lets viewers enjoy the full impact of a DVD movie in the cinematic format in which it was intended to be seen, and displays brilliant, detailed 854 x 480-pixel images. Glare is kept to a minimum thanks to a low-reflection screen coating. The TC-11LV1 has two forms of automatic video gain control for creating the best picture under any circumstances. One is "Active Light Circuitry," which automatically detects the brightness levels of the input signal and adjusts the backlight accordingly, providing an expanded dynamic range from black to white peak. "Active System Control" technology dynamically adjusts the video signal according to image contrast, and works in tandem with Active Light Circuitry to create an optimum image.

The entire unit tilts up and down for the best viewing angle. A built-in progressive scan converter enhances NTSC signals by progressively scanning the television picture. The result is a remarkably sharp and detailed 480p picture, with no visible scan lines. The TC-11LV1 also features a 181-channel tuner; an external HDTV tuner must be used to receive HD digital programming, according to Panasonic. The unit also plays music CDs.

"A new concept in desktop video entertainment products, the TC-11LV1 elegantly illustrates Panasonic's expertise in digital display technology," said Jonas Tanenbaum, National Marketing Manager for Panasonic's Display Group. "With the TC-11LV1, you can catch the morning TV news programs at your desk, or enjoy a DVD movie at the breakfast table." The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) will be $1,599.95.
