Origin Acoustics Launches Landscape Audio

Origin Acoustics’s new AS41 Hi-Fi Landscape Audio System ($1,700) includes an in-ground subwoofer and four “plantable” satellite speakers, designed to be mounted inconspicuously on spikes in landscaped areas.
Each satellite is a two-way design housed in a non-corrosive sealed enclosure with a 4-inch polypropylene woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter, while the subwoofer houses an 8-inch dual-voice-coil woofer in a ported enclosure that gets buried in the ground; the port is actually a weatherproof aluminum “mushroom head” that protrudes from the ground.
Rated to handle between 50 and 200 watts of power, Origin said the system is designed to project sound evenly into a designated listening area, such as a patio, and says the system can be powered from a receiver’s Zone 2 output. Installation requires direct burial speaker wire.
An extension pack with two additional satellite speakers is available for $400. A coverage area of up to 2,500 square feet is possible with six satellites, according to the company. The system supports up to eight satellites.
