New LG Speakers Boast Meridian Audio Processing, Dolby Atmos

LG today introduced a series of soundbars and portable Bluetooth speakers featuring audio processing from U.K.’s Meridian Audio.

The flagship SK10Y soundbar — one of six models in the new SK Series — and all three of the new Bluetooth speakers employ specialized Meridian digital signal processing (DSP) for more “true-to-life” sound and enhanced clarity of speech and music in addition to supporting hi-res audio playback.

The top three soundbars — SK10Y ($1,100), SK9Y ($900), and SK8Y ($500) — incorporate Dolby Atmos surround processing with 5.1.2 channels except for the SK8Y, which has a 2.1 architecture. Two of the three remaining models — the 2.1-channel SK6Y ($380) and SK5Y ($280) — have DTS Virtual:X surround processing, while the entry-level SK1Y ($100) uses generic surround processing.

All models support Bluetooth streaming and four of the soundbars support Google Chromecast for streaming from compatible apps and voice commands via Google Assistant-enabled devices, including LG’s own ThinQ Speaker.

The PK Series portable Bluetooth speakers include the PK7 ($250) — featuring four drivers, two of which are tweeters — and the water-resistant PK5 ($150) and PK3 ($100), both of which have two wide-range drivers. All models have a multi-color LED mood lighting mode and support aptX Bluetooth streaming. Battery life is rated up to 22, 18, and 12 hours, respectively. The PK7 and PK5 have an integral carry handle.

All soundbars and Bluetooth speakers are currently available at a discounted “promotional” price. The promotional price for the SK10Y soundbar, for example, is $900 — $200 off its suggested retail price.
