Naim Adds AirPlay 2 and Siri to its Music Systems

Naim Audio has announced a software update that adds Apple AirPlay 2 multiroom streaming and Siri voice control to its award-winning Mu-so and Uniti wireless music systems.

The update is available now for the compact Mu-so Qb ($899) and will be available tomorrow (Wednesday, November 14) for the full-size Mu-so ($1,499), both recipients of Sound & Vision’s prestigious Top Pick designation. Naim also offers a special edition version of the Mu-so featuring a champagne finish.

The company’s Uniti line, including the Top Pick-designated Uniti Atom, Uniti Star, and Uniti Nova will receive the AirPlay 2 update later this month.

Once the update is available, the Naim app prompts system owners to perform an over-the-air update.

Apple’s proprietary Wi-Fi-based AirPlay 2 platform enables music and podcast streaming from an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, HomePod smart speaker, Mac computer, and Apple TV to compatible Naim devices. Supported streaming services include Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, and internet radio. For AirPlay 2 to work, the Apple device must be running iOS version 11.4 (or newer).

AirPlay 2 enables Mu-so owners to access, play, and control their music anywhere in the home using Siri voice commands on an Apple device or through Apple’s Home app or the Control Center on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

With Siri, Mu-so owners can use spoken commands to play different music in different rooms, play the same music or playlist in-sync on Naim systems throughout the home, or stream audio from an Apple TV to a Mu-so system. AirPlay 2’s “enhanced buffering” is said to improve audio streaming performance.

Naim also announced that, in addition to being sold in Apple Stores, the Mu-so and Mu-so Qb music systems are now available in Best Buy’s Magnolia stores.
