McIntosh to Revive Fabled Amp Clinic at LA Audio Show

McIntosh has announced that it will revive its legendary “McIntosh Amplifier Clinic” at the LA Audio Show in Irvine, CA, June 8-10.

It will be the first time in nearly three decades that McIntosh has offered the free diagnostics clinic to owners of its gear.

Show attendees who bring their McIntosh preamps, integrated amps, and power amps to the clinic are entitled to a spec check, minor adjustments, tube testing, and, when necessary, a repair estimate. McIntosh will also have a selection of McIntosh brand tubes on hand, which will be offered at “special show pricing.”

The clinics was considered one of the most successful and longest running marketing campaigns in the consumer electronics industry. The first clinic was held at the New York High Fidelity Show in 1961 and they continued through 1991. Through the years, the clinics were headed by the late Dave O’Brien, who is credited with testing more than a million amplifiers in the U.S. and Canada.

The clinic will be operated by the Los Angeles service center, George Meyer AV, and co-sponsored by The Source AV and the Los Angeles & Orange County Audio Society.

Wherever possible, vintage and specially designed McIntosh test equipment will be used in the evaluations.
