Madrigal Recalls Revel B15 Subs

Madrigal has recalled approximately 1300 Revel Performa B15 subwoofers for repair of a potential shock hazard. A screw in the subwoofer's power amp section can cause a high-voltage short circuit, with risk of injury to consumers. To date, no injuries have been reported, but the company has received at least one report of someone getting shocked.

Madrigal is voluntarily recalling the American-built $3000 subwoofers in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The subs were sold through Revel dealers in the US and Puerto Rico from January 2001 through October 2002.

The recall notice states: "The recalled Revel Performa B15 subwoofers have an outer cabinet with a black or gray speaker grill on the front and are about 20 inches in width, height, and depth. The brand name 'Revel' is printed on the bottom left of the rear panel and 'PERFORMA B15 SUBWOOFER' is printed on the bottom right. The 1000W subwoofers were made in the United States."

If you have a Revel Performa B15, you should unplug it from the wall outlet and contact your original selling dealer or Madrigal directly for instructions about getting it repaired. Madrigal asks that you not "touch the rear panel, use the power switch, or remove the power cord or any connections from the back of the unit until it is repaired." Madrigal can be reached toll-free at (800) 424-8043 between 9am and 5pm ET Monday through Friday, or through Revel's website.
