LG Partners with Josh.ai to Enhance TV Voice Control

LG today announced a collaboration with the Denver-based home-automation company Josh.ai that will enable owners of multiple LG TVs to control those displays using voice commands as they walk from room to room.

With Josh.ai smart-home integration, LG’s 2018 and 2019 OLED, Super UHD, and UHD televisions can be controlled using simple natural-language commands such as “raise the volume” and “switch inputs to Roku” or more complicated, multi-part directives like: “Watch Stranger Things season 2 episode 3, turn up the volume on the TV, draw the shades 40%, and dim the lights a little.” The system will support voice control for any device assigned to the room the user is in.

Setup is described as intuitive: Once a supported LG TV is connected to the home’s Wi-Fi network, Josh auto-populates the set and provides authorization instructions for configuring HDMI inputs and setting up a distributed video system among multiple TVs.

“Our device integrations are incredibly important as we recommend solutions for luxury clients who want performance as well as reliability, with the simplicity of being able to ask for any video content in a room and have it instantly play,” said Josh.ai CEO Alex Capecelatro. “Our goal is to deliver an elegant user experience and our relationship with LG will help us achieve that vision.”

LG said it is committed to developing features that make its TVs easier to integrate with smart-home control systems. “Josh.ai has been on the cutting edge of natural voice integration and we are excited to bring this solution to our friends within the CI (custom installation) community,” said CI technical manager Joseph Colombo.
