LG’s Unveils $300 Smart Display Speaker

LG has introduced a compact smart display speaker/entertainment hub developed in collaboration with Google and Meridian Audio.

The Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-enabled Xboom AI ThinQ WK9 squeezes an 8-inch HD-quality touchscreen, Google Assistant voice control, and a 20-watt dual-speaker sound system tuned by Meridian Audio into a wedge-shaped cabinet measuring 12.6 x 5.3 x 5.2 inches.

LG is offering the WK9 at the promotional price of $200; the regular price is $300.

The WK9 doubles as a smart-home hub that can control “more than 10,000 smart devices from over 1,000 brands” and provides access to Chromecast, Spotify, YouTube, Google Photos, and Google Play. The system is equipped with a front-facing 5-megapixel camera for video conferencing and designed to produce balanced sound that belies its compact size.

"Our collaborations with…Google and Meridian have enabled us to offer a new home entertainment device with all of the smart capabilities that come with the Google Assistant plus an elevated audio experience," said Tim Alessi, head of product marketing at LG Electronics USA.
