HiFiMan Unveils its Finest In-Ear Monitors

HiFiMan has introduced two in-ear monitors (IEMs)—including a new flagship model—built around new drivers designed to deliver smoother, more extended response with reduced distortion.

A special “nano particle” coating with a geometric pattern is applied to the surface of the Topology diaphragms used in the new RE2000 ($2,000) and RE800 ($699) IEMs to help control unwanted and uncontrolled distortions.

The RE2000, hailed as the HiFiMan’s finest in-ear monitor to date, has a gold-plated brass housing with a 9.2 mm driver and removable cables made of silver-coated crystalline copper wire. The unusual shape of the RE2000 is designed to provide isolation and comfort for long listening sessions. Rated sensitivity is 103 dB and impedance is 60 ohms.

The RE800 shares much of the same technology and many features of the RE2000—including driver size—but in a lighter, more compact gold-pated brass housing. Impedance is also 60 ohms but with a rated sensitivity is 105 dB.

“Our new IEMs, with the Topology driver, have substantially improved performance that is readily audible,” said Fang Bian, company founder and president. “The idea behind the new Topology Diaphragm was actually inspired by my Ph.D. thesis that different Nano materials have differing structures and each of those materials has their own properties. Therefore, by carefully controlling the diaphragm surface structure we can yield different results in acoustic performance to a degree previously unobtainable.”
