French Start-Up Launches Smart Internet Radio

French start-up Prizm today announced the worldwide launch of a smart internet radio that plays the kind of music you want to hear when you walk into the room and hit Play.

The company’s namesake product is compatible with any music system via its analog, digital, or wireless Bluetooth inputs. It works like this: Connect the AC-powered device to a music system, download the Prizm app (available for Android and iOS devices) and create a customized music profile. When you walk into a room with Prizm, the system automatically recognizes you and your musical preferences through your smartphone to which it connects via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

The stand-alone system uses a “personalization algorithm” to find stations that align with your musical tastes so you can “make beautiful discoveries without effort.” Prizm connects only to music sites with a focus on “human curated” stations that are free of ads and deliver audio quality equal to or better than MP3.

The idea is make it easy to discover sites that deliver music you like instead of having to sift through hundreds, if not thousands, of internet radio stations. And the more you use the system, the better it gets to know your tastes, according to the company.

The app acts as a remote control but it is not necessary to use the system, which provides access to 15,000 internet radio stations without any subscriptions.

The system can also be configured to select music that will appeal to the common tastes of several people in the room; it can also broadcast music from apps you on your phone — such as Tidal, Deezer, and Apple Music — through the Prizm-connected speaker system.

The compact, pyramid-shaped device has Save and Pass buttons for marking stations you want to hear or avoid.

Prizm is available on meetprizm.com for the “launch price” of $119, which is $50 less than the regular price of $169. The company offers a 30-day trial period with a money-back guarantee.
