The hit TV series Lost ups the ante of movies like Swiss Family Robinson and Cast Away by adding in-depth character development through the use of flashbacks. And, oh yeah, it plants its plane-crash survivors on a Jules Verne-esque island, home to an unseen monster. In short, survival and science fiction are rolled into one impeccably cast, immensely entertaining show. The detailed images on this 24-episode, seven-disc set convincingly create the lush greens of the tropical forest, and the brilliantly mixed soundtrack also helps draw you into the action. An extended-cut pilot and three other episodes have breezy, informative commentaries from members of the cast and crew. The seventh disc contains better-than-average extras, including featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, interviews, and cast auditions. [TV-14] English, Dolby Digital 5.1; letterboxed (1.78:1) and anamorphic widescreen; seven dual-layer discs.
