DirecTV Tees Up New 4K Channel with Masters

AT&T and its new subsidiary DirecTV are putting golf fans “on the green” at the 2016 Masters Tournament with the first live 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcast in the United States.

The broadcast will come just days after the launch of a new 24/7 channel dedicated to 4K content, which will be included in AT&T DirecTV’s Ultimate and Premier packages. Programming will include documentaries and content from DirecTV’s Audience Network and other sources.

AT&T will broadcast all four rounds of Tournament play at Augusta National Golf Club from the Amen Corner feed, which covers portions of the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes. Live coverage will run from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET on April 7-10.

If you don’t own a DirecTV 4K Ready TV from Samsung, LG, or Sony, to view the 4K broadcasts you will need a...

  • UHD TV that supports a minimum of 60 fps with an HDMI 2.0 compliant interface and HDCP 2.2 content security
  • Subscription to DirecTV’s Ultimate or Premier package (with an authorized 4K customer account)
  • 4K Genie Mini set-top box connected to DirecTV’s new Genie HD DVR (model HR54)

Wonder what they will charge for that, Already hittign me an extra 10 a month for HD service. What a joke charging for HD service when everything is now HD. Thats like charging extra for wet water, what you dont like powdered water.
