Denon’s $999 AVR Boasts AirPlay 2, Atmos, Alexa

Denon today announced the addition of a feature-rich 7.2-channel AVR-X3500H to its X-Series line of AV receivers.

The $999 AVR is equipped with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X surround-sound processing in addition to supporting Amazon Alexa voice control, Denon’s Heos wireless multiroom platform, Apple’s new AirPlay 2 wireless platform, and hi-res audio decoding up to 24 bits/192 kHz, including DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz files.

AirPlay 2 will be enabled via one of three future firmware updates, two of which will expand the X3500H’s HDMI 2.1 audio capabilities to include a high-bandwidth Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) that supports object-based surround sound and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for a more responsive gaming experience. In a nod to vinyl enthusiasts, the AVR-X3500H also includes a phono input.

With Amazon’s Alexa Smart Home Skill for Entertainment Devices, voice commands can be used to control a variety of functions, including power on/off, volume, mute/unmute, music play/pause, input switching, and playback of Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, Sirius XM, Tidal, Amazon Music, and other streaming services. Bluetooth streaming is also supported.

Video highlights include Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) certification — including full suite of video calibration controls and ISF Day and ISF Night video modes — HDCP 2.2 copy protection, 4K/60 Hz and BT.2020 video passthrough, 4:4:4 color, and support for three high dynamic range (HDR) formats: Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG.

The X3500H employs Denon’s discrete high-current amplifier design, rated to deliver 105 watts per channel into 8 ohms (0.05% THD, two channels driven), and is equipped eight HDMI inputs, three HDMI outputs, and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 automated room correction, which includes Audyssey Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ, LFC (Low Frequency Containment), and SubEQ HT.

Custom installation features include ihiji Invision and Domotz Pro remote monitoring and management.
