CE Sales and Industry Recover

The consumer electronics industry is showing signs of improvement according to various benchmarks.

The U.S. Commerce Department reports retail sales were up 5.5 percent in July over the previous year. Sales in CE specialty and appliance stores were up 8 percent. See This Week In Consumer Electronics.

Meanwhile, major CE companies are doing better, with Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp banishing losses in favor of net profits. Sony posted a profit of $294 million in the second quarter of this year. See The New York Times.

Signs for the U.S. and world economies in general continue to be mixed.
