Blu-ray Shopping Spree

For months, it's seemed like the $300.00 price point was the magic number that Blu-ray players had to hit before they went mainstream. For a while, it looked like that $300 point is shattered, as two players - name-brand, full-featured players - had fallen below $200. Yup. Two-hundred buckaroos.

The first one is the Sony BDP-S300 that's $199.98 at Amazon.com. However, it should be noted that this is more like a clearance sale of an older model.

What was the latest bargain?

According to EngadgetHD, Samsung's BD-P1500, their current model (a Profile 1.1 player that can be upgraded to 2.0 with a 1GB USB drive), was selling for $199.99 over at Radio Shack. Normally priced at $299.99, for a limited time, $100 is lopped off that price. The sale price was valid till September 27th according to the Web site.

Apparently, it was just too good a deal, because at the moment, it's gone.

The lesson learned is that if you shop around, some amazing deals can be found, just in time for the release of The Godfather series on Blu-ray. Go shopping. Now. Someone will make you an offer you can't refuse. -Leslie Shapiro
