AudioControl Introduces Versatile 4-Channel Amplifier

AudioControl has introduced a versatile power amplifier that can be easily configured for two-, three-, or four-channel operation.

Made in the U.S. and built to match the company’s Maestro M9 and M5 surround processors, the Avalon G4 ($1,960) is designed to accommodate a variety of applications — from powering the height channels in a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X home theater system to powering a simple stereo/2.1-channel setup or multi-zone audio system.

In four-channel mode, the amplifier is rated to deliver 230 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 300 watts into 4 ohms with all channels driven. In bridged mono mode, the G4 puts out 600 watts into 8 ohms.

AudioControl describes the amp’s Class H design as highly efficient and said it provides “bullet-proof reliability while reducing heat dissipation from a compact form factor.” Each pair of channels has an adjustable high/low-pass crossover to accommodate a variety of system configurations.

The amp is equipped with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs (with passthrough), a level control for each channel, remote power triggers, and audiophile-grade five-5-way binding posts.

The G4 also incorporates AudioControl’s LightDrive circuitry to protect speakers from clipping and distortion, “even in extreme conditions.”
