Alexa Update Coming to Yamaha MusicCast Products

Yamaha today announced that a free firmware update due out this fall will bring Amazon Alexa voice control to its MusicCast series of wireless multiroom products.

The update will allow MusicCast products to be controlled through Alexa-enabled devices using voice commands. An Alexa “skill” that adds support for MusicCast commands will simultaneously be made available for Alexa-enabled devices, including the Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, and Amazon Fire TV, according to Yamaha.

The MusicCast series includes AV receivers, stereo receivers, wireless streaming amps, speakers, and soundbars.

Yamaha said MusicCast products can already be connected with Amazon’s Echo Dot because they have a Bluetooth input, which redistributes the signal from one Bluetooth source to multiple MusicCast devices. The Echo Dot can be paired with a MusicCast device through its Bluetooth output by saying “Alexa, connect,” which allows sound from the Echo Dot to be played back through a MusicCast device.
