8 in 10 American Homes Now Have Broadband

Eight in 10 American homes (81 percent) now have broadband Internet service, a three-fold increase over the number of homes (26 percent) that had a high-speed connection a decade ago, according to a new study from Leichtman Research Group, Inc. (LRG).
The survey also found that the number of adults accessing the Internet from a smartphone has increased significantly in the past three years, increasing from 44 percent in 2012 to 69 percent today.
Other findings include:
- Broadband subscribers spend an average of 2.9 hours online at home per day, up from 2.4 hours in 2010
- 78% of those with broadband at home also access the Internet on a smartphone, compared with 52% in 2012
- 13% of households get broadband Internet service but do not subscribe to a pay-TV service, while 68% of households get both broadband and pay-TV services
