Last week, Canadian company VisuaLABS Inc. announced what it describes as a prototype of the first high-definition 3D video projector using the company's proprietary 3D technology. A company statement claims that "for the first time, the sparkling, filmlike reality of HDTV can be seen with true, measurable depth onscreen. The 3D images are entirely viewable with the naked eye."

According to the company, the VisuaLABS technology employs state-of-the-art electro-optical elements in the projector and a proprietary screen that uses "a new generation of advanced engineered optics." The company states that "the resulting images are as detailed, focused, and bright as the originals in every way, but now include true optical depth. The very natural viewing experience is more like looking out a window, where the eye easily and comfortably determines that each and every object exists in space at its own unique depth."

VisuaLABS is demonstrating its technology at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, taking place this week in Las Vegas, and says that licensing and custom applications of the new technology are now available.
