Yamaha today announced the addition of a MusicCast-enabled model to its line of two-channel network receivers, optimized for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming and smart-device connectivity.

The R-N402, which will be available in September for $450, is rated to deliver 2x100 watts/channel and supports the proprietary MusicCast multiroom digital audio music system Yamaha introduced in 2015. The app-based platform supports wireless streaming of high-resolution files up to 96 kHz/24 bit over Wi-Fi.

Designed to connect with a range of analog and digital sources, the receiver supports streaming services including Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, Napster, SiriusXM Internet Radio, and vTuner, each of which can be controlled by the free iOS/Android MusicCast app.

In a multiroom system the R-N402 can be linked to other MusicCast-enabled products, including speakers, AV receivers, soundbars, and wireless streaming amplifiers. Information on the current MusicCast lineup is here.

Features include a brushed aluminum faceplate, an AM/FM tuner with 40 presets plus an additional 40 presets for network music stations, and support for AirPlay and DLNA, which facilitates easy access to digital music libraries stored on PCs, network attached storage devices, and USB flash drives.

The receiver supports playback of the latest high-resolution audio files—including DSD 5.6 MHz, AIFF 192 kHz/24 bit, FLAC 192 kHz/24 bit, Apple Lossless 96 kHz/24 bit, and WAV 192 kHz/24 bit—and is equipped with optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as analog inputs for legacy components.
