Vizio Releases HDR Update for E-Series Displays

Vizio today announced a firmware update that enables support for HDR10-encoded high dynamic range (HDR) content on E-Series Ultra HD displays with screen sizes 55 inches and up.

In addition to enabling the playback of HDR content via Ultra HD Blu-ray players, the update enables HDR streaming through Netflix, Vudu, and FandangoNow on six models—the 55-inch E55-E2 ($550), 60-inch E60-E3 ($750), 65-inch E65-E0 ($900), 70-inch E70-E3 ($1,300), 75-inch E75-E3 ($2,000), and 80-inch E80-E3 ($4,000)—and adds an on-screen sidebar menu for quick access to picture settings.

The sidebar menu can be displayed on screen using Vizio’s SmartCast app, the remote control supplied with 2017 models, or any universal IR remote or older Vizio remote that has a Menu button.

VIZIO said another update that enables YouTube TV on Vizio SmartCast displays will be available in the coming weeks.

The HDR firmware update will download automatically as long as the display is connected to the internet.
