Tweeter: Another One Bites The Dust

This one is personal. Tweeter, and its stores, HiFi Buys and Sound Advice, are no more. Gone. Someone hacked their site today, but now there is nothing. "Server not found." They announced bankruptcy last year - notable to me locally as the HiFi Buys Ampitheater here in Atlanta reverted back to its original name, the Lakewood Ampitheater. I met my SO at my local HiFi Buys. As true home theater lovers geeks, where will we celebrate our anniversary?

But, this has deeper, serious implications . . .

Employees were fired immediately, without the pay they were due.

From The Boston Globe:"The employees, including roughly 150 in Massachusetts, are still owed at least one week's pay, vacation time, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses that were promised as part of the liquidation sale, said the managers and executives who declined to be named because they are still owed money. Customers are unable to pick up merchandise they had already purchased and the liquidators handling the closing also have not been paid. Meanwhile, there is roughly $14 million worth of goods left in the locked stores."

Tough times all around.

In my area, Circuit City and Tweeter's HiFi Buys have been shuttered. We do have a Best Buy, but without competition, who knows what direction they'll go.
