Tributaries Ships ‘Most Advanced’ 18G HDMI Cables

Tributaries has announced that it is now shipping its most advanced HDMI cables ever to meet the increasing demand for cables that can handle content with high dynamic range (HDR), wide color gamut, and 60fps at lengths that extend beyond 4 meters (13 feet).

The new UHDT Titan HDMI line of passive and active cables are certified by DPL Labs and ISF for 18Gbps performance and encompass new patented developments in HDMI signal transfer, according to Tributaries: “An advanced metallurgy [that] enables longer lengths of passive cables and active electronics equipped with a DDC accelerator and three discrete internal power supplies.”

The passive version of the UHDT cables, available in 6-meter ($225) and 8-meter ($325) lengths, can transport 18 Gbps up to 26 feet (8 meters) and possibly longer, according to the company. The extended range is due in part to a new copper formulation with “high-frequency conduction characteristics far beyond standard OFC copper.”

“As an HDMI signal operates at very high frequencies it will travel on the surface of a conductor with very little depth of penetration,” the company explained in the press release announcing the new cables. “This phenomenon is known as ‘skin effect.’ Titan’s advanced high-conductivity copper results in lower losses than with standard OFC copper,” which makes longer cable lengths possible.

The active version of Tributaries’ UHDT cables features a patented Titan Digital module embedded in the display-end of the connector that’s designed to support HDMI 2.1 with four discrete channels, each capable of 12 Gbps (or an aggregate of 48 Gbps). The cable is powered by USB and delivers three discrete voltages that work independently of the HDMI source's 5-volt supply, which is said to prevent voltage variations from the source.

“Titan is also the first active solution engineered with an 18Gbps DDC accelerator designed for cables longer than 10 meters,” the company said, noting that the cable provides stable 18 Gbps performance between 12 and 25 meters.

Tributaries UHDT Titan active cables are available in 12-meter ($465), 15-meter ($565), 20-meter ($765), and 25-meter ($915) lengths.

All cables are tested before they ship, according to the company.
