Sharp 45" High-def LCD

Sharp continues to explore the frontier of what's possible in high-definition LCDs. The company recently announced a new flagship Aquos model, the 45" widescreen LC-45GX6U. The unit is based on Sharp's "next-generation" liquid crystal display panels.

A true 16:9 HDTV capable of 1080p, the highest possible level of resolution within ATSC specifications, the LC-45GX6U is the largest LCD-TV available with a built-in HDTV / CableCARD system. Images are displayed at 1080p, taking full advantage of the set's 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution. Contrast ratio is 800:1 (excellent for LCD) and brightness level is spec'd at 450 cd/m2, with 170 degree viewing angles in both the horizontal and vertical planes.

Video response time is under 12 ms., according to Sharp. The LC-45GX6U is said to be so bright that it can be placed right next to a window without degrading the image. The backlight lamp is rated for 60,000 hours.

Inputs are via a so-called "AVC system" that acts as a hub, accommodating two HD component inputs, as well as DVI and HDMI. For convenience and installation flexibility, the unit's loudspeakers are detachable. A table stand is included, and an optional wall mounting bracket is available at an extra charge.
